FO: Vanilla Socks.

I can't believe how long it's been since I posted anything related to knitting.  I am still knitting away, but there's been a bit lot of start-it-itis lately that's prevented me from any sort of ta-da moments.

Yarn-  Hello Yarn Fat Sock in colorway Plunge
Needle-  Size 2 (2.5mm)

I never use a pattern when I knit socks.  I use the general guidelines that the Yarn Harlot outlines in Knitting Rules, and just relax into the glory that is knitting every stitch of every round- after I'm done with the ribbing, of course.  I'm in love with these socks- the light teal green with the rusty reds and oranges and blues and greens all mashed up into one sock makes me so so happy!

There's a lot of fear associated with knitting socks, and it does look like socks would be super challenging to knit.  But socks are just like any other knitted item- you just follow the pattern, step by step, and at the end you'll have something at least resembling with you set out to knit.  My grandmother challenged me to knit socks right when I first started knitting, and I took her on.  I'm so happy that she encouraged me to push my skills and try to try different things.

  1. I love the colours. What a great and perfectly neat looking job of it! I am hoping to start another pair of socks soon....but I still have my son's 'Harry Potter Letter Sweater' which needs to be finished along with another hat on the go......I need to finish up some things first:)

  2. I love the colors too, gorgeous! I used to hate kniting socks, but one day it mysteriously turned in to a good knit, don't know what changed it :-)

  3. I love your socks! And, to me, there is nothing as satisfying as putting on a pair of socks that I've made for myself.

  4. Those socks are just gorgeous! Wonderful colors, and for that yarn, the plain stockinette is ideal. I think having the heel flap plain stockinette too is a really good touch. I love knitting socks!

  8. Love 'em. I usually use Wendy's toe up formulas - really easy stuff! That's great your grandma taught you. I need to teach my kids cuz they are slowly learning to love wool socks. My 11 yo son was in a biathlon and insisted on wearing thin nylon socks. He had to wait an hour in deep snow....it wasn't long before I traded him my wool socks and he said, mom, knit me a pair - they are so warm and soft!

  9. Wow those colors are amazing. I have sock envy right now. After reading the yarn harlot's blog for awhile I decided to pick up her book recently and I like it quite a bit. Glad to see you are still knitting away =)

  11. Great color combination! I'm fairly new to sock knitting but think it's fun, especially now that I'm doing both socks on one circular needle. No more Second Sock Syndrome!!!

  12. I LOVE them, Kate!! Sometimes, the plain stockinette socks are the absolute best! It gives you a chance to have fun with yarns and just let the socks fly off the needles. Plus, they're so warm and comfy!!! :-)
