I am so so so so so excited! This is my first crocheted FO that isn't Granny related, and I couldn't be more pleased! It's the Round Doily (creative name, huh?) from the Lacy Crochet

I think the most helpful thing about this books is the charts. Being able to see exactly where I was in the pattern helped me to progress through the rounds and to understand where the stitches went in relation to each other. To be honest I probably wouldn't have been able to make this without a physical representation written out in symbols. Learning is very visual for me. When someone tries to explain something to me with words, I kinda blank out and start thinking about something else. My little brain just shuts down for a bit.

The only thing I would change about this is the weight of the yarn. I bought my very first cotton while rushed, and I looked at the itty-bitty thread and thought "there's no way I'm working with something that small". I went home with a size 3 yarn (fingering), when I should have bought a thread. I didn't take into account that crochet works up differently than knit fabric. A fingering weight yarn that is crocheted is going to look a lot more bulky than when knit. I've already started my second doily, and it's using tiny thread. I'm already in love with doily number two.
It's so gorgeous, I love it. It's so delicate looking.
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous! You may be inspiring me to learn to crochet :)
ReplyDeleteThat's really really gorgeous! Go you! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome thing to create! You should be so proud of yourself as that is really beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! congrats.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Job! I am still am stuck on size 3 thread....can't bring myself to work with smaller thread and those tiny steel hooks. One of these days....I must have over 50 old pattern books in my basement waiting for me:) Hey...I asked my mom this question this morning. Do you hold you hook like a pencil?? or like a knife?? My mom and gramma hold it one way and I am the opposite. Just cursious how odd I am.
ReplyDeleteWow girl, you rock! The doily is sooo beautiful, and you are sooo talented!
ReplyDeleteOh it's just beautiful. My MIL used to crochet a lot of doilies but I have never mastered working with thread.
ReplyDeleteLovely first doily! I used to crochet doilies compulsively...back in the days before I learned to knit. I recently came upon my stash of doily patterns and am considering revisiting a once-loved pastime.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteLovely! When my grandmother was alive, she used to crochet doilies and decorative edging onto hankies. This really reminds me of her work!
ReplyDeleteYour doily is beautiful-- it looks perfect. I had a hard time with charts for quite some time but recently learned how to use them. That pattern sounds like it was a fun challenge for you. Looking forward to seeing the second one.
ReplyDeleteHi Kate!
ReplyDeleteThe doily is beautiful. You should think about taking up tatting!
What a beautiful FO! Even with the fingering weight yarn it looks really cool. Can't wait to see the second one.
ReplyDeleteI just read your post about being "finished" with knitting. I've kind of felt like that before, and I've dabbled in crochet but haven't junked in all the way. You're already creating beautiful work! Love the doily!
ReplyDeleteThis is just beautiful Kate!
ReplyDeleteTruly you are so very talented!!!
