I know that day five of the Knit and Crochet Blog week is supposed to be in a different format, or an experimental something, but I've decided to throw that to the wind and show you a different kind of project I've been working on. I recently confessed to having and increasing interest in Crochet. Well, yesterday I received this book:
I haven't been able to put it down. Once I stopped drooling over the adorable pictures and dreaming about making every one of the projects right! this! second!, I settled on one and started hooking. Also, I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to remove the term "Hooking" from an image of me in fishnet stockings on a street corner. NOT pretty.

This is my WIP of the Round Doily (rav Link). I'm so in love with what I'm making. I've discovered a few mistakes in the rounds below, and just ripped the work out to the mistake and started again. From my experiences with knitting lace, I know that one mistake can throw off the look of the whole piece. I really want my first piece of crochet lace to be beautiful.
I need to make another confession. This is my first time working with cotton. As a knitter, I had a passionate love affair with anything sheepy, but now I can understand that cotton has its merits, too. I'm just amazed at the lovely stitch definition and strength. The doily is looking quite sharp and I can't wait to block it!

Very pretty! I haven't tried anything remotely doily-like yet because I find those little hooks too fiddly. I just admire everyone else's :-)
ReplyDeleteBoth the book and the doily are beautiful! Great work!!
ReplyDeleteI love to be able to switch back and forth between crocheting and knitting. I so wish I knew how to read those crochet charts though. Your lace is turning out so nicely!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work.
ReplyDeleteI am going to check out the book.
I find I like working to charts rather than written instructions.
oh man, i want that book and i only know how to crochet a chain! it's on my list of things to learn though - your doily looks gorgeous so far!
ReplyDeleteOhh how pretty XD
ReplyDeleteThat cover alone is a seller! Good for you on diving into crochet.
ReplyDeleteOh your doily is very beautiful, you are so talented! Can't wait to see this one finished. Japaneses craft books is dangerous :-) Once it is opened it is impossible to put it down, and everytime I want to make everything in the book. And it is good to hear I am not the only one :-)
ReplyDeleteOoh, that's really pretty! I like. And I totally agree with the Japanese Craft book lust thing. They are so awesome.
ReplyDeletehow beautiful!! i'm only a knitter and have been hesitant into getting into crocheting..you're definitely inspiring me to be more crafty :) happy weekend!!
ReplyDeleteThose charts look rather scary to a granny square only crocheter!
ReplyDeleteWow - that doily is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour doily is beautiful. I still have all the doily's my grandmother use to crochet. I think crochet is so lovey and great to you for learning it. "Happy Hooking".
ReplyDeleteKate - you can live there, I can chop wood, and Virginia can knit our wolly clothes. We will have so much fun :-)
ReplyDeletePretty doily! I'm excited that your interest in crochet is growing. :) It's great for quick crafts too.
